A good lyric can send me on an emotional roller coaster. I am not going to lie. I am a beyond hopeless romantic so a sweetly emotional lyric paired with the sentimental moment of a couple's first dance has me hiding tissues in my sleeve so I can dab the guaranteed waterworks that I will have at their reception!

Emotion is the key ingredient to the perfect first dance, couple it with my couple's personal love stories, first dances definitely are in my top 5 favorite moments to capture at weddings.

I remember picking out the song for our first dance with my husband. He proposed in somewhat dramatic fashion (that's a story for another post on another day!) to me after I had returned home from studying abroad in New Zealand for five months. While that was a lot of distance between us, we were no strangers to it as a decent chunk of our relationship had been built while he lived in Milwaukee, WI and I live in Mankato, MN.

We browsed through the song list provided by our DJ with music playing in the background. And then Usher's "Here I Stand" started playing. We both just looked at each other and were like 'yep this is the song.' It hit us in the feels about how determined we were to be together through all the shifting and curve balls life throws us and how regardless of the good, the bad, the ugly he was my 'one' and vice versus. Still to this day it settles me in the best and toughest roads of our relationship.
